After the meeting, Alex called me over. “You can’t just say you’re going to work on those three tasks today.”
“You have to pick them up,” he said, grabbing the three post-its. He deliberately stuck them over in another section of the bulletin board, watching my face to see that I understood how vital this was. “You have to move them. Otherwise the whole system falls apart.”
He rolled his eyes briefly at having to explain this. “Okay? We cool now?”
Time was, I’d have had him begging me not to tell his boss this or that thing. I’d have used Dad Voice on him until he hid in his office for a week. It only takes a few words. I have chunks of guys like this in my stool.
Not this time. Jobs are rare right now. Or maybe I’m less of an asshole. Or maybe I care about his post-it system? Heh.
